What rainbowcups does for the environmental sustainability?
Environmental sustainability is important at rainbowcups. Being a responsible company, we are part of the Green Dot(Der Grüne Punkt) recycling system, whereby we participate in collecting recyclable materials. Each year we raise the percentage of our products that are collected and recycled.
Day by day, we work hard to increase the usage of recycled raw materials like rPET, which is PET plastic from recycling, as well as materials made from renewable sources like PLA or CPLA, which is a thermoplastic polyester obtained by condensation and crystallisation of lactic acid. PLA is typically made from fermented plant starch such as corn, cassava, sugarcane or sugar beet pulp. Being made from 100% renewable resources, it is also biodegradable and compostable.
We substitute products that are most environmentally harmful with their environmentally friendly versions. We have eliminated plastic straws and coffee stirrers from our offer, as these were hitting the environment the most. Recently, we have added compostable fibre lids made from paper pulp to our offer.
For environmental sustainability, we continuously grow the number of our products made of biodegradable and compostable materials according to EN 13432:2002 standard.
We favour FSC or PEFC-certified paper suppliers because we want the paper we use to be made from wood that comes from responsibly managed forests.
Our BIO paper cups use a new water-based barrier instead of PLA, so according to a common understanding of the SUP directive, you do not have to use the “plastic in product” logo, but to be 100% sure, check your national regulations.
